6th Annual Workers Unite Film Festival Brings Labor to the Big Screen

New York City – The workers Unite Film Festival has will kick off its 6th year Friday, May 5th and will continue until May 25th. The film festival will cover a range of topics from global labor organizing in Bangladesh and Cuba to frontline labor campaigns with TWU and the Retail Action Project. During the 20 day film festival there will be over 80 films screened.

Unprecedented attacks on workers’ rights to organize nationwide by corporate funded, conservative politicians reminds us of why we must proactively tell these workers’ stories and share their battles to survive in an increasingly unequal economy. The questionable victory by Donald Trump and the cloud of suspicion and uncertainty that hangs over this administration will not protect workers from increasingly vicious attacks by the right-wing billionaire class and their servant puppets in Congress. We must resist and mobilize to fight an all out assault on our labor rights and rights as workers to have jobs with dignity, justice and fair pay. The ongoing campaigns by OUR Walmart, by fast food workers for a living wage and by NYC workers for a living wage show that uniting workers is still vital to the dignity and survival of wage earners in the US and around the globe. The Festival chooses to focus not just on stories of unjustly persecuted workers, but to show inspirational stories of struggle and victory

About Workers Unite Film Festival: The Workers Unite Film Festival is a celebration of global labor solidarity and is New York’s only labor film festival.
