An evening curated by the Worker's Unite! Film Festival, featuring a tribute to local artist Bruce Anderson.

7:00PM - "FINAL CUTZ", the Award-Winning Anti-Capitalist Zombie Comedy

Final Cutz answers the question, ‘What happens when a cool film school is targeted for closing by their corporate owners, just as a nuclear induced zombie apocalypse takes place?’ This low budget but heartfelt film mirrors the real life story of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design and how the students gave their creative middle fingers to their corporate owners. Funny and self-aware, a true one of a kind cult film.

‘At War’, A Gripping Narrative from France, Has NYC Premiere at Village East Cinemas

The Workers Unite Film Festival is honored to host the opening night screening of Stéphane Brizé's Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or nominee ‘AT WAR’ at 7:30pm on Friday, July 19th, at Village East Cinemas. This Nord-Ouest drama presented by Cinema Libre Studio is fast becoming a critic favorite around the globe.

Catch it for its opening week run in NYC or, for those on the West Coast, ‘AT WAR’ will be playing at Laemmle’s Royal Theatre in Los Angeles beginning July 26th with a Director Q&A following the main evening show on July 26th & 27th.

Synopsis: Despite heavy financial sacrifices on the part of their employees and record profits that year, the management of Perrin Industries decides to shut down a factory. The 1100 employees, led by their spokesman Laurent Amédéo, decide to fight this brutal decision, ready to do everything to save their jobs.

‘AT WAR’ (En Guerre) is directed by Stéphane Brizé and stars Vincent Lindon. The film was an official selection at the 2018 Cannes International Film Festival and won the prestigious FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics. It also won for Best Screenplay at the Chicago International Film Festival.

CLIPS:

“Vincent Lindon in a potent lead performance. Feels closer to Ken Loach or to early Paul Greengrass, depicting the plight of laborers with a gripping, handheld verve. At War feels much closer to documentary than fiction — and the movie itself less like a workplace drama than the chronicle of a soldier in the heat of battle.” - Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter

Stéphane Brizé is a French director, producer, screenwriter and actor known for AT WAR (2018), THE MEASURE OF A MAN (2015), and A WOMAN’S LIFE (2016).

French with English Subtitles (115 min, 2018)

Lila Avilés’ debut feature THE CHAMBERMAID is a NY Times Critics’ Pick and recently won for Best First Film at the Ariel Awards (Mexico's Academy Awards)! “Quietly stunning … After you’ve seen it, the world looks differently” says A.O. Scott.

Synopsis: A deluxe Mexico City hotel feels confining for Eve (Gabriela Cartol), a chambermaid whose days are filled with making beds, cleaning bathrooms, and running interference for a panoply of precious guests demanding special attention. As she yearns for independence within and beyond the confines of the hotel's luxury walls, her hopes and desires materialize alongside a seething anger sparked by a newly feminist streak.
